Order drone videos from vDisain
Drone videos have changed the video industry significantly and have brought a new dimension to even simple videos – the air. Many things look more magnificent and powerful from the air, and drones allow you to bring out the most of them.
What is drone video good for and where is it used?
There are many advantages to filming with a drone:
- it is possible to obtain aerial footage at a lower cost compared to a helicopter;
- can film in small and narrow places where helicopters would not fit;
- it is possible to capture new perspectives in addition to the usual picture that opens up when you are on the ground;
- able to capture more locations, such as landscapes, sports fields, buildings.

What is a drone and what drones are used for filming?
A drone is an unmanned aerial vehicle that is controlled over a long distance. Drones are used in all sorts of fields and save lives, take them, and record them.
The most popular brand for drones for filming is DJI, and their drones, the Inspire, Mavic, Mini, and Phantom, have found widespread use in filming.
What makes filming with a drone difficult?
Although anyone can buy drones in a store and with a little tinkering, anyone can fly one. This is also the reason why drones became popular among ordinary people in the 2010s. This was also made possible by the legislation at the time in Estonia, where it was possible to apply for one-time flight permits.
2022. However, as of January 2019, the law changed and all drone pilots must acquire the basic remote pilot qualification, i.e. pass remote pilot training and an exam. Every drone owner must also register as an operator with the Estonian Transport Board.
Drone operators have all gone through this process, they know the areas and know where they can fly as is and where special permits are required.
Drones used for filming often have batteries that don’t last more than 15 minutes, so you need to get the footage into the frame quickly. To do this, the drone operator needs to know what they’re doing.
Drone filming is more than just flying a drone with a camera in the air and flying it over fields. There are many techniques for filming with a drone, and a skilled drone operator can choose the right ones for the video.
The simplest filming technique is flying overhead, but drone operators can also use more diverse techniques, such as:
- filming an object passing by a drone flying at a constant altitude;
- flying through a narrow area. For example, between two nearby buildings;
- “Revealing” an object. The object is not visible at first, but the drone flies over it, e.g. upside down, and brings it into focus;
- flying upside down. Brings out a different perspective and ensures that propellers and props are out of the frame;
- circling the object being filmed with a drone;
- The drone “tracks” and keeps a moving character in the frame.
